Over the coming weeks this blog will be used to discuss ‘next stages’ for the products. For instance, on MeeTimer we’d like to look at less friction in using it, and more graphing tools – maybe even some kind of social aspect. GTDInbox, well, that’s a huge subject given how we’re working toward v2. And finally, there is a new product in the pipeline that (I think!) is pretty special.

I guess the best format will be to blog about a feature (or set of features), put out some screenshots, and then knock ideas/thoughts about in the comments.

(If you use Google Reader, Netvibes or any other RSS-type app, don’t hesitate to drop in our RSS feed – that way you can be notified of new previews/releases and discussions).

    Great idea. Easy way to get feedback on what people would want to use/change.

    I really would like to contribute with new ideas, but Meetimer stats are not working correcly in my Linux machine. So I disabled it in Firefox

    Any ideas about how to fix this?

    That aside, Meetimer is a really gret job.

    @marcio
    Thanks for the heads up; I’m aware there are some difficulties on Linux with MeeTimer’s configuration. I’m going to try and find a few spare hours to convert an old laptop to run Linux; and try to isolate the issue.
    (If you know how to program JavaScript and use Linux, feel free to play with the MeeTimer source… if you find anything please drop me an email!).

    @Andy:
    You may be able to save time by downloading a VMWare appliance for a Linux-distro from http://www.vmware.com/appliances/ or using a Linux LiveCD (http://www.frozentech.com/content/livecd.php).

    This isn’t exactly a general feedback thread but I trust it isn’t too far out of line to treat it as one.

    The lists of labels in the side box do not always stay collapsed. I’m not talking about the large box but the smaller lists: Projects, Status, etc. I’ve just started using this extension and it has been pretty helpful so far. My list of projects is pretty long and if I could get that list to disappear it would clear up the screen.

    Thank you for developing this.

    I’m trying the GTD extension and like it fine but am wondering about my Firefox performance since the install. It has slowed way down. Am wondering if this is a common complaint. I could uninstall GTD but hate to do that because I have lots of labels I would have to recreate if nothing changed by the uninstall.

  • Andy

    @Mim,
    It’s a common complaint – even from myself! But, to clarify, it is only Gmail itself that it will impact (and for most PCs it is only noticeable when loading Gmail, not while using it).

    It’s a really major aim for GTDInbox v2; and I think it will be completely irradicated.

    As far as I know, Firefox extensions cannot do uninstallation routines; but why would you have to change labels? Surely you’d only have to delete the new ones that GTDInbox created? (Or just keep them until v2 arrives!).

    Hi Andy,
    great job with gtdinbox! thx a lot!
    i just would like very much to have the option to work with the empty inbox-style you described on the gtd-page. but if i archive the mails, i cant find them clicking for example on the label “status:action” cause the search looks for mails in inbox.
    is there a workaround for this or are you considering to give users different styles to choose from when installing gtdinbox – like: “empty inbox” or “archive graveyard”?

  • Andy

    Hi Coob,

    This is a common problem, and it’s all down to a dodgy design decision I made way back when… oops! :)

    Fortunately, it’s easy to rectify. If you load the Options (in Firefox, Tools -> GTDInbox -> Options), switch to the Methodology tab, and deselect the “Only Return Inbox Items for GTD-based Labels/Searches”. Click Save & Close.
    Next time you refresh Gmail, you’ll find the searches working properly.

    Don’t hesitate to email if you have any more questions.

    Love the GTDinbox! Is there anyway I can put the number outstanding beside each actions? E.g. Read (14). I do that in the traditional folder system so that i can crank down the one with most actions when my energy levels are high. Thanks.

  • Andy

    @Shang – I’ll see what I can do with that one; that’s a pretty heavily built in feature, and so quite hard to ‘tweak’ to work with GTDInbox, but I will investigate!
