GTDInbox 2.0 Beta RC5 – Urgent Update

At some point last week, there was a Gmail update that was more fundamental than normal, and broke GTDInbox. In retrospect, the fix was pretty small; but it was tricky! I’m hoping – given the nature of this change – that it is a rare occurence. Most Gmail alterations can be very easily dealt with in GTDInbox, so long-term the stability of GTDInbox isn’t at risk.

As a consequence of the Gmail change completely stopping GTDInbox from working, I’ve had to release 1.98 sooner than I would have liked. I wanted to add some more tweaks (like better legibility in certain parts, as requested by Ed Pontius); and I also fear there may still be a few glitches… but I thought on balance it was better to have something that worked rather than nothing at all!

Of course, this does mean I have just one more RC left (1.99) before I run out of digits for testing the real GTDInbox 2 release ;)

    life saver …!

I was in panic last week …

now my stress level is at acceptable levels. Thanks.

Thanks Andy, much appreciated. Let’s hope the final one is out soon too.

Thanks for the fix. Nice to be back up and running again. As for diminishing digits, you could always sub-divide 1.98, no?

    1.98.1, 1.98.2 … or a,b,etc. no?

I’m no software developer, so maybe I’m typing bollocks. Anyways, very happy to be able to quickly blast through my inbox again. Many thanks for everything!

I just installed the 1.98 update, and GTD is completely gone! No menu in “tools,” nothing GTD related in older or newer version of gmail. Am I doing something wrong?

  6. Ed Pontius says:

    Andy-

Alright! It works and I’m back up with GTDInbox-

Thank you for all of your hard efforts-

    Ed P

    Hi Robbie,

    That’s a little strange. Can you do me a favour & try 1.97? http://gtdinbox.com/gtdinbox_1-97.xpi ?

There should no longer be anything in the Tools menu; but you should see it very clearly within Gmail.

  8. Tejas Patel says:

Robbie, same happened to me and it helped when I restarted Firefox. Again, this happens every now and then and restarting the browser fixes it.

I’m new to GTDInbox and have the RC5 because I’m also new to GMail. I’m using Google Apps and have noticed that the Print to Hipster button (seen in some of the docs) doesn’t show up. Neither does the GTD Search. Is this expected?

I’m very excited to use the application, but just want to be sure I’m not missing something.

    Thanks!
    John

  10. Andy says:

    Hi John,

You’re okay, Hipster Print and GTD Search are old features that were phased out. They may return; but not in the 2.0 release!

  11. John says:

Thanks Andy — I feel better now :)
I’m still struggling though with the best way to ‘add a task’ Do most people just send a personal email to themselves and label it accordingly? What is the ‘best practice’ for this?
    Cheers,
    John

  12. Andy says:

There is a forum up that you’re more than welcome to get involved with for a discussion like that – http://forum.productivefirefox.com

To answer the question, the best way to kick start tasks is with Compose Personal (and to pre-label before you send it). I’ll look to optimise this process in the future, but for now it works well. An interesting dimension might be using services like Jott and Twitter to use your mobile to throw tasks into the system; but I don’t do this myself so I can’t advise you!

  13. John says:

Thanks Andy — I’ll move this to the forum.

  14. James says:

Help – I installed the update and no GTDInbox. I also tried installing 1.97 to no avail. Please help… I LUV your product!

  15. Brian says:

    How do I uninstall…any tricks?

  16. Todd says:

    …neither .97 or .98 show up after install…

  17. Andy says:

Brian – no tricks, in Firefox just click Tools, Addons, then select GTDInbox and click Uninstall.

James & Todd, I’m a little alarmed here. Are you both definitely using Gmail 2 (with “Older Version” in the top right of Gmail)? Email me and I’ll start looking into it – or take it to the forum (http://forum.productivefirefox.com).
