Ok, let’s try this again… I hope, I believe, that Preferences will work this time around. They’re in Firefox’s Addon window (Tools -> Addons, find GTDInbox and click Options). They might look a little plain, but they are powerful – if you break anything with GTDInbox let me know and I’ll get you back on your feet
Oh, and you have to refresh Gmail to take advantage of them.
What else? A few bits here & there!
* Pre-Compose Labels are a little less fragile (and in the next version I will make them bullet proof).
* This bit I really like… in the Sidebar Box, if you click on a label type (e.g. Projects), the hierarchial menu now includes bold numbers to show you how many tasks are on that label – you know, things like P/GTDInbox/Bugs (50)
* This shouldn’t matter to you guys, but it’s a little easier for beginners. There is a setup routine for Status labels and help on the label types.
* A big bug was fixed with the Archive/Finish+MoveNext functionality on the blue labelling box. This should now be much more fluid.
* Just a little touch (thanks to Mate), if you keep the Sidebar Box minimised, you still have a shortcut to access the Dashboard
I believe that’s all for alpha 10 – as usual, any questions/bugs/ideas/thoughts, drop them in the comments or send me an email.
Download Alpha 10 from http://www.gtdinbox.com/3/ (Refresh if it’s still showing an earlier version).

sorry, had not seen the choices in add-ons
Nice to see the update, been waiting to see if this solved my problem, but then realized that my problems persists.. so fiddling with the add-ons i discovered why.
I have 1 issue with gears. When I activate gears (0.5.4.2) plugin and set gmail for offline, I cant get the gtdinbox sidebar.
When I disable gears, all works fine… is this a know issue?
Using Firefox 3.0.11, Gears 0.5.4.2, GtdInbox 3.0.a10, WinXP
Mike – thank you!
Manoel, you got it
pablo – GTDInbox isn’t currently compatible with offline mode. It’s on the to do list; but as you can probably imagine it’s a pretty big thing so I’m not sure how long it will take. Just ’sooner the better’
Probably you haven’t noticed, but special characters like vowels with an accent mark (such as ó) are not properly shown in GTDInbox 3 popups.
In my case I use those characters for my labels, because I’m Spanish
Anyway, keep up with the good work!
Hi Jose,
I’ve been trying to get international characters to work properly for the last few versions (since about Alpha 7), as it affects quite a lot of users!
Can you drop me an email with a screenshot of the bits that are still affected?
Thanks,
Andy
Hi Andy,
Like I commented on the previous post, could you pleeeease again provide the right-click menus for the GTD Labels? For example, it used to be easy for me to see what Next Actions I have pending to do at home by right-clicking on the Home context and choosing Next Actions.
Could you suggest an equally easy way of achieving that in GTDInbox 3?
best regards,
Narasimhan
You should mention that 3rd party cookies are required.
Firefox > Preferences > Accept third-party cookies
The ‘bug’ allows the UI to load, but prevents GTDinbox from recognizing your labels (leading to an endless setup cycle).
Ok, I got it; if you hover over the context name itself, it does not show the correct pointer type, but if you click there it shows the pop-up with the neatly arranged categories. Fantastic!
If you click on the little arrow on the right side of each context (or project etc), it does a gmail search with that label (which is quite useless GTD-wise).
Thanks again for the snazzy new interface with loads of new classifications.
Hi Narasimhan,
I feel the pain, that is definitely something I want to bring back.
I think the initial plan will be to let you sort items by Status. So; you will right click Home, and then view ‘Tasks To Do’, and then sort by Status to see Next Action items first. Will that work?
Later, probably in the Pro version, I want to create a much more sophisticated filter; but that will take a considerable amount of work!
Andy
Thanks Chip, I never noticed that. It could be a real problem… Hmmm!
This is great. I’m enjoying watching each iteration improve over the last.
My status items are not behaving like the project and other items. They are not nested. My sidebar looks like this:
Dashboard (42)
Action
Waiting On
Someday
S/0 Stat-urgent-Right Now (4)
S/1 Next Action (9)
S/2 Action (14)
S/3 ILM-Waiting for (8)
S/Delegated Ann
S/Information (7)
S/Journal
S/Park
S/Patient followup (2)
S/To Read (1)
Projects
Contexts
References
Old
Misc
Also a suggestion for ease of use: Can you add a keyboard shortcut to close the pop up boxes associated with each label? Easier than clicking the corner.
Brilliant work!!!!!
And a hint for old users: Go ahead an click on the folder setup key even if you have your folders set up. That will improve the chances of cleaner functioning of the program.
Andy,
The new project label dropdown at the top of each email are great. A suggestion though: either create a preference so that references are expanded by default (making applying a reference label one click) or utilize the horizontal space and put references to the right of projects.
The problem that caused this suggestion: I use references quite a bit more often than projects, so it would be great not to have to click twice to get to a label.
Hi Andy,
I installed alpha 10 and was playing with the settings when I accidentally deleted my status defaults, and I haven’t been able to figure out how to put them back in. This pretty much disabled the whole program.
Can you tell me what I need to do?
Best,
Peyton
GTDinbox has made my entire life better, and I donated from another email address. I love the new dashboard, but the new pre-labeling slows me down. Previously I could just highlight the relevant labels like this:
project: click
context: click
reference: click
now I have to do this:
project click dropdown, slight load, click
context: click dropdown, slight load, click
reference: click dropdown, slight load, click
I can see how the dropdowns might be useful for someone with a million different options, but for me, I keep my projects, contexts, and references manageable, and all of them have meaning. This adds too much time to the very efficient system you’ve already created. Any way to enable the old, better interface without losing the new, awesome dashboard?
Andy,
Never mind. I uninstalled FF 3.5 with Revo so I cleared out all traces. Then I reinstalled and added GTDInbox alpha 10 and everything was back to normal.
I would still like to try marketing your system as an efficient way to increase productivity of employees who are bogged down in their email. GTDInbox could be a turnkey approach for many businesses, as well as a life-saver for their employees.
Best,
Peyton
Hi Andy,
Thanks for the reply. I also appreciate very much that you understand my problem.
As I said in my second comment, the feature is more-or-less already there now; clicking on a specific Context opens up a project-wise list of all tasks in that Context. This is even better than what was available on GTDInbox 2 because we have the option of listing either linear or project-wise.
There’s also the option of listing only the Next Actions or Actions or Some Day, which is also great.
Just one comment that comes to mind; I use a custom Status label called S/Reference, and don’t use the R/ at all. Once a task is finished, if it contains any attachments that may be needed for reference later, I just mark the conversation as S/Reference, which means that it’s no longer a task, but contains reference material related to that completed project. If I needed the info later, I would just right click on the specific project label, and select Reference, and that would throw up all the required data.
The reason I mention this here is, in the current setup, the items marked by S/Reference are also listed as tasks; i guess the reason being, all Status labels other than S/Finished are treated as Todos. It will be nice if it would configurable as to which Statuses are treated as Todos (or restrict only to the standard NextAction, Action and SomeDay).
Sorry for the long comment; hope what I said is interesting to you.
thanks & best regards,
Narasimhan
Hi,
just to say that this release definitely solves some minor bug that where still there in Alpha8 (pre-labeling, dashboard, options).
Thanks again!
Ste
Andy
I’m with Tom up above. Any idea when I will be able to have my labels inline again? And having the add label button back would be wonderful as well.
I really appreciate your work here, it has really helped me organize my life.
R.
thanks for your great work!!!
Josh – thanks for the great words
I hear you on the Projects dropdowns… there is a plan in motion for that (the Pro version will deal with it best… more on that soon).
Peyton – the turnkey approach sounds interesting, want to drop me an email or discuss it here?
Tom and Mr Titus – hang on for Alpha 11, might have an approach that helps with that (“might”!)
Narasimhan – that is indeed interesting, but can I ask why you use S/Reference over, say, R/General?
I am loving pre-labelling! It’s so useful for keeping my waiting for list up-to-date!
Many thanks!
Hi Andy,
I consider the ‘Reference’ as the status of an item. Whatever information I gather related to a project that’s needed for reference, but does not constitute an action, goes under S/Reference. The project tag will also be there, so it’s easy to dig out all related info.
I could not come up with a useful way to use R/. You need to give a useful suffix, and the intuitive one that comes to mind is the project name. But that would be redundant, right?
Even gmail conversations that are originally marked as Action, I tag them later as S/Reference if it contains any detailed info to be dug up later. So that way I have all the info related to a project bound together.
Could this inspire a change of concept for GTDInbox? Do let me know your thoughts!
cheers
Narasimhan
Hi,
GTD 3 just magically started working a couple days ago after initially not working.
Early returns- love it, though I wouldn’t mind the stuff in the message header being a little shorter (so it takes up less vertical space).
But otherwise, nice job!
I have the same problem with french voyel é à etc as Jose said

Hi,
Still no sign of options for me using the Flock browser. Not sure I need them, but would be nice to have the option.
Thanks,
Alex.
Tom and Mr Titus – I had gtdinbox running on my home computer too so just did a search of prefs.js in the FF profile directory for “some day” and it came up with about 4 settings used by gtdinbox. Copied and pasted them to prefs.js on my work computer (after taking a backup, of course!) and everything’s back again!
Guess I could have done the same with a backup of my PC but only have that on the home PC
Looking forward to a11, though!
And loving pre-labelling!
Richard
Hi,
I’ve just updated to the new version and it’s not working on my system (FF 3.0.17 on Ubuntu 8.04). The previous version had the already reported button problems.

I tried to set up some options in the preferences windows but no luck…
Any hint?
Is this is a specific Linux issue? Anyone else on Linux having any probs?
