GTDInbox 3.0 Alpha 25

Hi guys,

Thanks to KevinB, Jason Bartlett and Duane Aliah we’re tracked the problem with the missing sidebar down to a conflict with the ‘hide chat’ feature in Better Gmail and Minimalist Gmail – this is the main fix in Alpha 25!

And thanks in no small part to Susan Penter we tracked down several other bugs: the task (Status) counts in the sidebar were not staying accurate, sometimes the Status buttons didn’t work as expected and a nameless rare error was affecting some of you (I won’t bore you with the details!). All now fixed.

So a little explanation is in order as to why we slipped behind with getting these issues fixed. Especially in contrast to our long run of development throughout 2009. As you might have guessed from the earlier question about rebranding, we’ve been doing a lot of work to put us on the right path to solve as many problems with email as possible. This has included trying to understand the needs of different users, how to explain ourselves to new users better, what features will be built – and what will be free and what is premium, and trying to secure a little investment to drive us forward.

One of the big problems (an admittedly nice problem!) is that there is simply so much we can do with email, that deciding what features really matter – and within those, which are really high priority – is no easy matter. We have a good feel about where we’re going now, and I’m returning to active feature development as of, well, three days ago :)

More to come soon, meanwhile, GTDInbox 3.0 Alpha 25 can be installed from http://www.gtdinbox.com/gettingstarted.htm (and will be delivered via Mozilla Addons automatically in the coming days).

(If any problems continue to affect you – or you discover news ones – please comment below or email me. I’ll be right on top of them now).

My GTD Search button is back on top. Looks great!

Mine is also back at the top. Unfurtunately I still have to open a message and re-load Gmail for the sidebar to appear. It is opening with a stream of Gmail labels down the side and a troubleshoot message. If I open a message and reload the tab it loads correctly.

I haven’t been up to speed lately and I was wondering what happened to the next action & projects (drop-down) buttons that used to appear every time you opened an email? They used to appear in a grey bar near the top and bottom of every email.

My labeling box has disappeared in both reply and compose.

Great job with GTDInbox! I just noticed today that v3.0a25 has a finished button labeled “Finis, hed” with a comma in the middle of it.

    However, it adds CHARACTER.

GTDInbox is no longer functioning and has disappeared from my Gmail since installing 3.0a26. I’m using Firefox 3.5.5 and have multiple other extensions (nothing new, however some recently updated). I’ll check compatibility but wanted to let you know. I rely on Gmail with GTDInbox and feel lost without it. My deepest gratitude for your dedication to this project.

First of all, I think this is a wonderful thing and has made my emails, and therefore the way I work, much more straightforward.

I’ve believe I’ve noticed a bug with the Archive button at the top of my mails. When I press it, I am told that my mail has been archived and the button goes dark. However, I don’t then get moved back to my inbox or to the next mail or anything, which is what I believed was meant to happen. Let me know if the problem is with me, or with GTD.

    Thanks, really! G.

Ditto on the labeling box going MIA … I’m practically paralyzed without it :(

So is there any update on the Chrome port since Oct? With the Chrome extensions just released I’m edging back to Chrome but having just discovered GTDInbox and converting all of my tags, I don’t want to give it up.

The drop-down labeling fields have disappeared using Firefox 3.6 Beta 5, but I think this was true for Beta 4 as well. Everything else seems to work, though I haven’t done much testing. I did the about:config resets for gtdinbox (there are 3 now), but that made no difference. I haven’t gone back to a previous FIrefox, so it could be a Gmail issue again.

  • Jack Nelson

I went back to Firefox 3.5.6, which seems to have the same problem, so I guess it is a Gmail change. I notice that doing a Compose Mail that the dropdown fields are present again there, but not in a regular view of a conversation. If nobody else is having the problem, maybe I changed something here (Windows 7 32bit, java version 6, update 17).

Addons just updated to 3-0-alpha-26, and that does seem to fix the problem in both Firefox 3.5.6 and 3.6 beta 5. I am surprised that neither this blog nor the Uservoice pages are reflecting these issues or the fix; it used to be that the comments came first, the fix later.

Trying to install 3-0-alpha-26 on Firefox 3.5.6 and keep getting

Firefox could not install the file at

    http://www.gtdinbox.com/gtdinbox_3-0a26.xpi

    because: Download error
    -228

when I try to install the extension.

I don’t know where else to ask this question, but are there any plans to update Meetimer for Firefox 3.5? It sounds like exactly what I need to stop surfing the internet and get working on those New Year’s resolutions!

  • peyton

We’re not planning to update it at this time. Our focus is entirely on GTDInbox Plus Beta and porting to Chrome.

Please let us know if you’re still having a problem via email to support@gtdinbox.com.

  • peyton

It’s in progress. Should be ready, soon.

  • peyton

Is it working OK for you, now?
