GTDInbox 3.0.11 is now live — please update immediately

We are happy to announce the release of what we hope will be a fairly stable beta of GTDInbox.

Version 3.0.11 should eliminate many of the problems people have been having and may be our last release until Feb 8. Until then, we’re doing a big refactor to improve the foundations for future performance – which is why no new updates for about a week.

GTDInbox Plus Beta users can upgrade through the Plus account management button in their left sidebar.

GTDInbox Free users can upgrade through Mozilla Add-Ons or through GTDInbox.com in the usual way.

Please continue providing us with your error reports, comments and encouragement. If you have problems, please let us know so we can work on them with you! You can post to UserVoice or email us at support at gtdinbox.com or just comment on this blog post.

After updating, for some reason, the finish button is gone…

  2. Alex Gold says:

Is it just me that GTDinbox won’t load for after updating to this version then?

    • Sacha says:

Hi. I have the same problem. FF3.5.7. GTDInbox not loading anymore, ever tried to delete keys from about:config. What else can I do?

      • peyton says:

Sacha, please email us at support@gtdinbox.com.

Can you do me a favor and send us an error report. Here are the steps to create one.

        1. Close Gmail tabs
        2. Open Firefox’s Error Console (in the Tools menu)
        3. In the Error Console, move to the ‘Messages’ tab/button
        4. Click Clear to clear the Messages list
        5. Go back to the Firefox window, and open Gmail (and log in)
        6. Switch back to the Messages list in Error Console. You should start seeing debugging information from GTDInbox.

In normal circumstances, there will be a lot of messages (if there’s none, then it might not even be loading at all – very unusual). Fortunately, there is only one type of thing you need to look for (and if it’s crashing, there will be much less debugging output as it will stop after the error).

An error will be on multiple lines (and one of the only messages that is), and it will have line numbers and stack trace information. This should make it easy to spot in a quick scan.

        An example is:

Error in glNavBar: Could not find mainBucketsContainer nodeStack trace:Exception thrown(“Could not find mainBucketsContainer node”,”glNavBar”)@chrome://gtdinbox/content/js/util/debug.js:110([object Object])@chrome://gtdinbox/content/js/gmail/ui/glNavBar.js:73
If you could just paste this into a reply email, that would be great! If you cannot copy and paste, then a screenshot would be almost as good.

If that’s too much for you, just email us.

  3. Joe Scherb says:

Yes, my Finish button is gone too. I am able to get GTDinbox to load however.

    • peyton says:

Joe, see my explanation about the missing Finish button with a workaround to keep you going until we can put it back, probably next week.

Sorry for the inconvenience. This was a real goof-up on our part.

  4. soso says:

it’s not just you alex. It doesn’t work for me either- I get GTDInbox failed to load (1 error)

is there a way to view this error by the way, gtdinbox team?

    • soso says:

I have Windows 7/64-bit/Firefox 3.0.11 environment and the clearing account_prefs fix did not work for me.. sadly. Hope you figure out the issue soon!

      • peyton says:

        Soso,

I am sorry this did not work. We should have a new version ready for release, early next week, and we hope it will solve these loading problems.

        Best,

        Peyton

  5. Unappy User says:

Seems as if this is becoming bloatware and the purveyors now trying to extract money. This new one kills my gmail, will have to remove.

    • peyton says:

Actually, the .xpi file is smaller than it used to be, but I get your point about bloatware. You may not need GTDInbox Plus Beta. We think that most people will find all the features they need in GTDInbox Free. The features we are adding to GTDInbox Plus Beta have all been requested by GTDInbox users. We’re not just adding features we we can charge for them. Quite the opposite. We’ve been doing this as a volunteer project for years, but have reached the point where we need to hire people if we are going to provide the features that people ask for. Hence, we are offering a paid option. GTDInbox Free will always be free, and it’s probably all you need.

The failure to load error sometimes comes up even when you can make GTDInbox load by refreshing Firefox. Please try that. If it really won’t load, please try to steps outlined in the latest blog post on installation problems in Vista and Win 7. These seem to be coming up with other OS’s, too.

      • Clive R says:

you guys have been awesome ‘volunteers’ for years.

        what a grump…

.i hope you make some real bucks and I’ll put a few of my own into the collection tin. your response was amazingly polite…..the purveyors now trying to extract money ..sheesh.

        • peyton says:

Thanks, friend. We’re trying to move away from the donation model, so if you just upgrade to Plus and stay with us, we’ll be thrilled!

          Best,

          Peyton

  6. TM says:

Finish button gone for me too. I want it back!!!!

    • peyton says:

We goofed on the Finish button for GTDInbox Free. Here’s what happened. We wanted to make GTDInbox Free and GTDInbox Plus Beta essentially the same code so we could work on them as efficiently as possible. Then, when we developed the drop-down Archive button for Plus, we incorporated Finish and Delete into it so people could do either with a single click. If you’ve watched the feature tour video on YouTube, you know how this looks. The people who are using Plus really like it. Our mistake was that we did not foresee that this would eliminate Finish from the buttons in the simpler, Free version.

We should be able to restore the Finish button or something equivalent, next week. Meanwhile, here is a workaround.

GMail has a default keyboard shortcut on the L key (and it works with lower case L, too.). When you press the L key, GMail opens a drop-down menu of your GMail labels. This menu will automatically select any label that you type the name of. So, you press L and then start typing finish. As you type the word finish, the label S/Finished will be highlighted. If you click on the label name, check the box next to it, or simply press the enter key with it highlighted, GMail will apply S/Finished to the email you are working on. GTDInbox should automatically remove any other action status labels at the same time.

I really do apologized for this error. It’s amazing that we didn’t see it, but sometimes when you’re focused on the trees you can’t see the forest. And we were focused on making major UI improvements and didn’t see this unforeseen consequence at all.

    Hi

I lost all my buttons with 3.0a26.

Now I have installed 3.0.11 and I have also lost the ‘Compose personal’ link as well as the buttons.

    Mac OS X 10.6.2, Firefox 3.5.3.

    Can you help?

    Cheers!!

    Neal

    • peyton says:

      Neil,

Thanks for letting us know. 3.0a26 was broken when GMail made some changes. 3.0.11 is the current version. Could you send me an email at support@gtdinbox.com, and we will troubleshoot from there.

      Best,

      Peyton

  8. Alex Gold says:

I think this is the problem with my version, I am using flock on XP:

    Error in giPluginManager.loadPage: Error:
ReferenceError: JSON is not defined (t: 9:24:31.623)
    Exception thrown
    ([object XPCNativeWrapper],”mozilla”)@chrome://gtdinbox/content/js/core/giPluginManager.js:5
    ([object Event])@chrome://gtdinbox/content/js/mozilla_backgroundPage/giPageManager.js:82

    • peyton says:

      Hi Alex,

I have tried using GTDInbox on Flock, but at this point it doesn’t work. Flock has been modified too much from the standard Firefox. If you would like us to support Flock, please go to http://gtdinbox.uservoice.com and start a feature request thread. There is one running for Chrome with over 100 votes for it. If there is a big demand for Flock, then we may be able to do this.

      Best,

      Peyton

      • Alex Gold says:

        Hi Peyton,

I have run every other version of GTDinbox until the last with no problems on Flock. The problem seems to be that the plugin thinks I am using Chrome rather than (a version of) Firefox based on the error message. It must be a small change that has happened recently.

      • Alex Gold says:

3.0.a25 is working for me, so I’ll stick with this for now.

        • peyton says:

          Alex,

Is 3.0.a25 still working on Flock for you? I didn’t realize GTDInbox worked with Flock, but if it has been then I am going to guess that when we release the next version, it may well work with Flock.

Please let us know. We should be releasing it, next week.

          Best,

          Peyton

          • Alex Gold says:

Yep, 3.0.a25 working on flock, will let you know if the next version does too then! Cheers.

  9. Hi,

I have been unable to install a working copy of GTDInbox Plus. I’ve tried versions 3.0a26 and 3.0.11. I see preferences, and they have picked up some of my customized (but not my novel) statuses. I never see the product custom buttons, nor the registration button.

    Environment: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Build 9L31a)
    Firefox v. 3.6 (Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6 Glue/4.5)

I see you’ve published instructions above for error reporting. Please feel free to refer me back to them or to advise me of anything else you might need.

Thanks for the opportunity to check out the new product!

    All the best,
    M.

    • peyton says:

      Michael,

It would be great if you could send us an error report at support@gtdinbox.com. We do a lot of our dev work on Mac, but for some unknown reason people are having trouble getting GTDInbox to install on Macs. We should have a new release, next week, that will take care of this.

      Thanks, again, for your support.

      Best,

      Peyton

    Nice product!

It would be nice if you could also incorporate a comprehensive contact management module to explore the possibilities of a full Gmail intergrated CRM solution. Gmail contacts is fairly basic and does not support the corporate/business market.

CRM in gmail would be excellent!
