ActiveInbox for the new Gmail

A little ahead of schedule (or rather, just in the nick of time!), ActiveInbox has been patched up to work properly with the new changes to Gmail.

Everything works but is, in my personal opinion, a little cluttered (even the base Gmail UI, without ActiveInbox, is cluttered). I think in the next few weeks Pete & I will have to get the paint stripper and rolling brush out and give it a proper touch up.

But for now, I’m going to focus back on the next proper release, speak (very) soon!

PS You can grab ActiveInbox 3.1.0.11 from www.activeinboxhq.com/install.html, or wait for Chrome/Firefox to auto update (Chrome will generally update nearly immediately, Firefox can take a few days).

    It doesn’t work yet though!

    Hi Ralf,

Can you drop me an email detailing what’s going on? (andym@activeinboxhq.com)
What errors you see, how much of ActiveInbox you see, whether you are running Firefox or Chrome, etc.

It’s all tested and okay here!

The 3.1.0.11 version works with me now.

Andy, Looks like GMail contacts is now using a labels mechanism to replace contacts groups. Anyways in it’s current form using ActiveInbox 3.1.0.11 Beta my Gmail Group drop down list is empty even though the group member ship is still visible beside each contact.
Also I made the mistake of expanding my gmail Recent labels and they won’t collapse again. Unfortunately this pushes the ActiveInbox box down by three screen heights.
Good luck. It’s to bad google doesn’t allow us to turn back one release until we are ready for them.
As always Thank you and yours for all the effort.

  • Alan

My mistake. You can strike all of the above. Recent labels need a screen refresh whenever you return to mail from contacts. And contacts groups drop down list work fine once you select a contact to adjust which groups to associate it with. So far so good. As always thank you and the team for such a timely update to Google’s changes.

  • AndyM

    Hi Alan,

It’s interesting what is going on with Contacts… Groups is something that I do think are very valuable, but have historically been hard to use. I’m hopeful for some innovation here (and if it comes with good search functions, ActiveInbox can really sink its teeth into it!).

Hi, thanks for the quick release of the hotfix.

However on Chrome I ran into this issue right after I updated to 3.1.0.11 and refreshed my Gmail tab: the browser keeps displaying error dialog pop-ups saying “DEBUG error in GG_iframeFn: RangeError”. I can click on the OK button for each of them to the point where, after 28 times, it displays “DEBUG error in GG_iframeFn: RangeError: Maximum call stack size exceeded”, which I can call 7 times then back to the previous dialog, etc. If that can help, note that ActiveInbox is not displayed on the Gmail interface and the interface says “Oops… the system encountered a problem (#103) _ Retrying now…” despite the fact I always use https. Not sure if it could be related, but I happen to use multiple inbox Lab feature (which I cannot disable anymore). Let me know if you can help! And thanks for all the work.

  • AndyM

    Hi Seb,

That is a debug error that should not have been left in – I will have it fixed for the next release.
But in the meantime, can you drop me an email to andym@activeinboxhq.com to discuss? We all might benefit from exploring what’s going on over there!

  • Jeff

Hi – I am an Activeinbox Plus user and its is still broken for me. I have installed the latest release, restarted Firefox 3.5.11 and no joy. What is missing is the side bar where I can select Projects to search, Next, Action all that. This is missing when no message is open. If I open a message then I can see the actions and whatnot.
    Jeff
Contact me if I can help, I have already sent my error log several times today.

  • Ralf

    It works now!

I installed the one from the link. But I think disabled the wrong one. (at that point I had two ActiveInbox extensions in my list).

  • AndyM

    Hi Jeff,

I’m going to email you now – I see the logs, but if my email doesn’t come through please contact me on andym@activeinboxhq.com. It should be pretty quick to figure out & fix.

I guess some people are having problems because you didn’t update the version in the Chrome extension gallery: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/oeehiifcaeengdofhogmkblhkmpephcj

    It’s still 3.1.0.5 there.

  • Ben

I’ve been working to install it on my mac but no joy. get the warning dialog at the bottom from the first step but then it does a strange download that won’t open in chrome.

  • AndyM

    Hi Ben,

This seems to have stopped for me, making me think its fixed, but I run the development version of Chrome… what was working (on the Mac) was just to keep trying. It’s laborious, but once it’s in it’s in. Sorry for the frustration :(

  • AndyM

    Hi Michael,

Thanks so much for the heads up on this… I’ve been diligently updating the file, but had missed that Chrome Gallery required a second ‘Publish’ step. All taken care of now!
