“Move Nexter” Buttons Fixed [Updated]

Hi all,

Lisa is currently doing a tremendous job getting in touch with everyone and helping me prioritise what gets done.

But I’m only just getting up to speed… I’m just about back on top now. In the coming weeks & months I’ll be going as fast as possible to make amends to all.

I’ve just fixed the “Move Nexter” buttons (next to Archive/Finish/etc.), so they will be ready to swiftly glide through your email again.
(It will auto-update in the next few hours in Chrome; in the next few days in Firefox – but you can grab it immediately from www.activeinboxhq.com/install.php).

From first thing next week, I will:
* Work with Pete to start fitting into Gmail’s new theme
* Get ActiveInbox working more neatly with Gmail’s new types of Inbox (e.g. “Important”, “Priority”, etc.).
* Continue to address any other smaller issues getting reported on the forum
* Get started with the big new developments

See you next week!
Andy

  • Geoff

“Active Results” are no longer visible after installing this update.

  • Moahmed Shahid

HAB Completely disappeared  now. Same for Chrome and Firefox both. Please help us fix this or give a link to downgrade to 4.0.2.15 urgently.

  • http://twitter.com/vansmurf Christian Tremblay

I should read comments before upgrading soft… broken here too

  • http://www.dynamic-data.net Carlos Thomas

    Same as below…

  • CaptainCarl

Chrome auto-updated the addon, same result as others – no AIB toolbar.

  • Geoff

I installed the previous version and functionality is restored.

The previous version is available at http://www.activeinboxhq.com/activeinbox_4-0-2-15.crx

Remove the extension first, then install the old version and finally you need to register your account again.

    • Adam Hirshan

Thanks for this.  Back to .15.  All is well.  :)

  • http://profiles.google.com/alexandremrj Alexandre Jesus

It happened to me too, but i returned to the previous version.

Just go to the install page, do a copy location in the button of the install and then paste that address in the url bar and change the 16 to 15.

In firefox the link is: http://www.activeinboxhq.com/activeinbox_4-0-2-15.xpi
save to your computer and then just drag to firefox to install the earlier version

    • Mohamed Shahid

      Thanks heaps.
Back to 15 until we hear from support.

    • Rhgaspar

that process did not work for me on Chrome — it still says 16 on my version……  Any help is appreciated.

      • http://profiles.google.com/alexandremrj Alexandre Jesus

The link I supplied was for Firefox, that is an xpi

For chrome you have to uninstall version 16 and then use the crx link to install version 15, I tried in chromium and it worked

Back to 15 for me as well, 16 was working ok for a while then suddenly I lost the top bar — felt lost and couldn’t process anthing, also the ActiveResults weren’t working.  Seems good in 15 now  thanks for the link Alexandre

        • Brad Couper

Great – thanks Alexandre – working for me too in Chrome.

    • http://profiles.google.com/grazanaut Paul Graham

       Thanks heaps. Works a charm.

To be fair on the AIB guys, at the end of the day, AIB is not an official GMail plugin, and the Google guys have been going a bit bananas with various changes lately, which are bound to break things. Overall, it’s awesome that they’re usually able to respond to GMail changes so quickly – and lucky, it seems, that some time off by the lead dev (check out their blog post) happened a little before rather than right in the middle of the GMail changes.

Keep up the good work guys :-)

  • Adam Hirshan

No Shortcut Buttons for me on Chrome.  :(

  • Dave Armstrong

I’m on chrome and I’m dead too

  • Rhgaspar

I am dead in the water – nothing is working now since this update!  what gives here?

  • Brad Couper

Not so fixed - like the other comments my whole AIB bar is gone.

  • Mepublic

Well, installed 16 – and the AIB toolbar is completely gone. So back to 15 – and everything is working again … thx to Geoff!

This is bologna. That’s right, I said it.

  • Ryan Frazee

I am reading that .16 isn´t that stable or having problems.  When it is fixed, can we please get an official confirmation that .16 is fixed?  I haven´t upgraded yet, and don´t want to until I know it is working.  Thanks.

The AI cube shows up again, but only in the multiple e-mail view. And I can’t click it and in general make any use of it. So I wonder when there will be fix? Why is there no comment about it here by the AI team?? Vacation? Don’t they use their own version? The above blog post is highly unspecific!

I’ve also just been updated to 16 and had to revert to 15. Looking forward to the repaired 16 :-)

  • DarranFoxon

Quiet weekend guys? when you’re ready  … seriously though, I like AIB, keep up the good work and noli illegitimi …

A bit amateurish isn’t it.  After all these guys charge for the professional version and therefore should provide some level of support.  If Google change the rules I guess that is something we have to put up with, but there should be a quick fix.  In this case it appears that version 16 was put into production and didn’t work.  That’s bad enough but at least you would expect support to roll back to 15 for you or at least advise you to roll back.  For users to have to find the fix from other users is ZERO SUPPORT.  I suggest you guys sell the business to some professionals and go back to playing computer games.

    • http://www.tekture.com Nathan Sudds

@jeremyholton:disqus I can appreciate the frustration, but it may be a bit harsh to call the ActiveInbox team amateurish and suggest they should “sell the business and go back to playing computer games” :)
I’m sure there’s a good reason that Andy and team haven’t replied on the blog just yet — but even if there isn’t, thankfully there’s a good bunch of dedicated users (probably pro users I’m guessing) that have chimed in to help out.   We know that the team do work very hard to provide a quality product and generally reply quickly with fixes despite having to deal with the changes that happen to Gmail on a whim, with no real notice. Like @google-397277de5af200082b22b40ee7e60d32:disqus mentioned, Google have been “going a bit bananas” lately with updates and that sends the team to work putting out the proverbial fires.

As a paid user myself, I feel lost without ActiveInbox when it’s not working 100% — but that just reminds me how much great work Andy and the team have done — and for a long time before asking for any money they were doing it for free! (Still are for all those using the free version)

Thanks ActiveInbox team for what you do, and hopefully you’ll get any issues sorted out soon just in time for Google to break something else  ;)  — for now, rolling back to 15 has been a good temporary solution for my needs and hopefully everyone else.

    • http://profiles.google.com/grazanaut Paul Graham

I find that overall, AIB provide pretty darn good support – in general, they fix issues caused by Google changes swiftly (and this is the case now, as point release 17 looks like it’s now out – I’m yet to test it though).
I also feel lost when it’s not working properly, but having had to manually add the filters for actions, dates, etc on my Android, I can work around these sorts of hiccups (though it’s obviously a bit of a pain).

“Amateurish” – not sure whether I agree or disagree with that statement. If I agree, it’s in a “good way” ;-)  …The very nature of their product means they can’t always go about developing in the usual well planned methods – what AIB is on a technical level a lot of what AIB does is effectively a “hack”, but a very well written one. There’s no way to enhance GMail like this, other than using this sort of method.

I’m a Javascript developer, and I’ve always thought about writing a mashup or bookmarklet to improve GMail, but I’m also Lazy, and I’m very glad that Andy and the team aren’t :-)

Professionals provide support and do not leave it to their users to provide the support.  It doesn’t help the developers to provide excuses for them.  If they are going to survive they will have to learn to act like business men.  Its a great product and deserves to be successful but it won’t be unless the developers learn some very basic lessons.

As version 16 failed but rolling back to 15 worked, this can only mean that 16 was not properly tested before it was put into production.

Even if testing of 16 failed to find the faults that stopped it working for most users, the developers should have been watching for feedback from users after installing a new version.  They appeared to be somewhere else.  If they had been watching the feedback they could have done the roll back.

Even if they couldn’t do the roll back themselves for some reason, they could have informed their users of the problem and how to address it.

I want ‘Andy and the team’ to succeed as AIB is indispensable once you get used to it and start to rely on it, but they won’t succeed unless they learn to provide a reliable well supported product.  That is more important than development or marketing.

I sincerely hope that AIB is successful and preferably Google will buy them out for a huge sum while allowing them to go on developing an even better product
