A little more bug blasting in ActiveInbox 4.0.3.6

“Send & Archive” is back!

It’s got a slightly simplified design (because the HAB will be going into the fixed-part of Gmail, and so always visible, so we no longer need to embed it in the Reply box); but it’s ready to keep your inbox at zero.

Pinning fixed (no really, I mean it!)

There was still a small group of people who couldn’t pin properly, I’m really sorry about that. It turned into a really finicky problem, but I’ve dealt with it now.

Create Label from Review Bar dropdown

As per request! You can now create labels from the Projects dropdown in the Review Bar.

Previous Emails load on click

I fixed a simple little bug that stopped you opening an email in the Previous Emails list (found when you click Reply in a conversation); so you can quickly catch up on recent discussions to help you write your email.

Notes Dropdown will not lose your notes

Notes had the potential to be really irritating, by closing when you clicked the “Always Show Notes” checkbox, causing you to lose your unsaved note. I’ve fixed this now.

Auto update will kick in soon enough, but you can also grab it from http://www.activeinboxhq.com/install.php.

Update that changed 4.0.3.5 to 4.0.3.6

Okay, it’s 3:22am (I thought I’d mention it because I’m exhausted and it’s an opportunity to play my violin!), but thanks to Michael and David I realised shortly after 4.0.3.5 got released that there were visual glitches in the To Do dropdown, and possibly still (STILL!) issues with pinning being remembered. I’ve just pushed 4.0.3.6 to get them fixed, about an hour after 4.0.3.5 originally went live (and late in both Europe and the US), so I hope only a handful of people were affected with the bad release.

The “To Do” dropdown is broken :(

Yes, I’ve forced a refresh, restarted the browser, and cleared cache.

  • http://www.activeinboxhq.com Andy Mitchell

Ha ha, you’re getting good at predicting my stock questions :)

Thanks David, you & Michael were super fast at reporting this, and I pulled the release of 4.0.3.5 and have just pushed 4.0.3.6 instead.

  • David Robertson

Confirmed fixed, however you might want to do some minor cleanup when there’s a To Do item with more than 9 items:

The pin button gets pushed over a little

Other than that, fantastic work.  Really.

Pinning is not persistent on my Google Chrome (15.0.874.120 m)

    Steps to reproduce:

    - Open Chrome (Gmail is on a fixed tab). Nothing is pinned
    - Pin Upcoming, Upcoming is pinned
    - Close Chrome
    - Open Chrome

    Nothing is pinned.

I’m using AIB on several machines, maybe this is part of the problem?

Other than that: woow! Great new version :)

  • Ben Van Zee

I’m having the same problem as Marcel. Running Chrome (15.0.874.121) on Mac OS 10.6.8.

  • Levk1

Pinning is still broken, I have the latest version.

  • Daniel

This new version does not seem to load correctly in Chrome 17 on the Mac. Already blasted cache, cookies, etc. uninstalled and re-installed. Just never loads up when I am my Google Apps account.

Thanks for bringing back the Send & Archive feature — could I make a special request, Send & Finish? :)  I would LOVE that addition.

When I’m working through my next actions it would be great to Send & Finish — since those are already archived and what I really need to do is remove the Next label.

Loving this current version, I have actually started using more of the features again since the addition of the next Review Bar!

  • SQN

So I upgraded to 4.0.3.6.  I don’t see how to ‘Send-and-Archive’.  How’s that work now?

  • http://www.upperlinefinancial.com H. Jude Boudreaux, CFP®

So everytime I click on Send and Archive (which is a feature I’ve had enabled from Google Labs for sometime now) I get a pop-up asking me if I want to upgrade.  Can you please kill this altogether?  It’s incredibly annoying.

  • http://www.tekture.com Nathan Sudds

Which browser are you using?  I have just turned on Send & Archive in Labs and tried a few different times but couldn’t recreate the issue.  Do you have ActiveInbox Plus already? Or the free version?

I would like to see the Send & Archive from ActiveInbox stay — as it adds the extra toggle arrows and works with the logic of the whole system.  Hope you can hang on and let Andy fix the issue instead of killing it altogether because of what is probably a bit of a bug. Thanks!  :)

I’m using Chrome on a Macbook Air, and I’m using the free version of AI.  I can wait for a little while.

  • http://www.activeinboxhq.com Andy Mitchell

Thanks Nathan, and Mr Boudreaux sir, it’s very much an accident – I’m fixing it now. Sorry about that!

  • http://www.tekture.com Nathan Sudds

No problem!  … if you can manage a Send & Finish while you are in there… haha ;)  Just playing, see my comments below about that.

    Pins don’t stick.

    4.0.3.6 on Chrome 15.0.874

    Cache cleared etc.

Ruud — be sure to download 4.0.3.8 — this is the version that worked properly for me.  Close the Gmail tab and open a new one after installing.

    So far, so good!

    Hi,

I’ve tried to minimize vertical space usage in Gmail. Good start at least:
    - I’ve used http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/117234 Greasemonkey script to remove uninteresting elements
    - I had to modify AIB’s style using firebug, so I don’t have blank line above AIB top menu:
    #gtdi-rb{ …………….; top:1px;}

The result is in the images.

I’ve thought about further compression of space – some ideas are pictured on the third image:
    - remove not active AIB Plus items (yeah, I get it, you have them there to promote Plus functions….)
    - remove all unneeded text and so make buttons smaller, so they don’t wrap:
      – Action => A
      – Next Action => NA
    - move archive and move to next button
