Bug Fixes in Preview 4.0.4.5

This is just a little bug fixing release based on everyone’s feedback, thank you so much for all your help!

Fixed A Major Issue With Migrating Deadline Labels

So, some of you could not migrate your labels (the migrate button did nothing), and some of you found ActiveInbox was giving you 0 active results after migration.

It transpires the problem was the same in both cases, and something I’d completely failed to foresee (which is why we do preview releases!).

I won’t bore you with the geeky details, but essentially it was caused by “too many” deadline labels.

The good news is I’ve fixed and so thankfully, there’s no longer an issue with “too many” deadline labels! Everything should be fine now.

Remember Group By and Sort By For Each Type Of Result

Your choice of Group By and Sort By is now saved for Statuses, Deadlines, Projects and your other label types.

So for example, you can organise Statuses by Project, and organise Projects by Deadlines.

Overdue Items Are Included in Today

This might be controversial? Let me know in the comments if you disagree!

Installing It

You can get 4.0.4.5 from http://www.activeinboxhq.com/install_preview.php

  • Teleo

Thanks for the “Group/Sort per type of result” feature, much appreciated!

    I have two bug reports:

    1. Pinned sub-projects disappear from the top bar
    2. In a list of groupings I have the option “old”. It doesn’t disturb me, but it may be a symptom of a problem.

Having overdue items in Today is an excellent idea in my opinion.

    Cheers,
    Teleo.

Thanks Teleo – I’ve got them both on my bug list now :)

The ‘Previous Emails’ feature stopped working on the previous release, and still isn’t working on the latest. I type in a person’s email address to To, the ‘Previous Emails’ button transforms to indicate how many messages there but nothing happens when I click on it. (Well, it goes blue, but that’s it.) I’ve rebooted Chrome and the laptop.

    Hi Ian,

It’s working here :/ Is this in Compose or Reply?

And after clicking it (with no reaction), do any warnings appear in the Support dropdown in the top right? If so, can you submit them?

    Where is the migrate button?
Also when I do a project search now it now looks like:
    label:p-studio-current
    NOT
    label:p/studio/current
like it used to and generates no results
    Am I missing something?

  • Ian Gadd

Not working in either Compose or Reply. The only errors I get are:

Error in gtdComposeRelated._click: TypeError: Cannot call method ‘toLowerCase’ of undefined

  • Kevin Murray

Previously, when I selected a parent project, it would include the child projects as well in active results. Now it doesn’t seem to do that. Has this behaviour been changed? Is there a way of restoring it? I have grown to depend on it.

  • Kevin Murray

I’m also finding that the drop-down is not picking up all the active results for each project. There are missing emails. I’m finding it a bit of a mess.

Overdue Items Are Included in Today – PERFECT!

  • Jochen Schuetze

I’m still on 4.0.3.10, but would like to mention:
PLEASE make the inclusion of overdue items in “today” configurable (if this wouldn’t be too much work). I’m strongly against it, but I see others like it — so why not use computers to make everybody happy?
Another, even more important comment about “today” and “overdue”: At least with 4.0.3.10, I need to reload GMail every morning to get them updated. What if I forget this in the morning (followed by some waiting for the web page to reload)? Is there anything you can do about this?
    Cheers, Jochen

  • Steven Aagaard Mountfield

I agree – this is a very good functionality update!
Still hoping for a “today-filter” which can be used in multiple-inboxes.

  • Stelvio Gori

    Seconded.
I like to see my “Today” separated from “Overdue”, please make this configurable…

  • Filip Decloedt

In “Today” stuff for today has priority.  Like it’s implemented now in 4.0.4.5 there’s too much to see.  I lose my focus even with grouping things.

  • http://www.activeinboxhq.com Andy Mitchell

    I will do!

    Hi Kevin,

Which dropdown is failing? The Projects one?

Have you migrated your deadlines to the new label format?

Are all active emails found in the To Do dropdown?

And finally, are you seeing any errors in the top right Support tab? (Please let me know here if you are!).

  • http://www.activeinboxhq.com Andy Mitchell

Ack, this looks like another bug – thanks Kevin. (The answer being: no, the behaviour hasn’t changed intentionally!).

  • http://www.activeinboxhq.com Andy Mitchell

    Hi Paul,

The migrate button only appears if you have old-style deadline labels (like D/Deadline, D/D/1, D/M/1, etc.); and will appear in the top Review Bar, and on the Horizontal Action Bar (HAB) in conversations, as “Update Deadline Labels”.

    With the project label:
    * Using dashes is in fact the correct Gmail search (we may have used to hide this though!). They use ‘-’ for any character that isn’t a letter or number.
    * It now loads automatically into Active Results (rather than Gmail Results), which only shows emails that have a Status or Deadline.
    * I think there is a bug with Active Results where it isn’t capable of showing all the emails it should do… I’m looking into this now!

  • http://www.activeinboxhq.com Andy Mitchell

    Thanks Ian,

Could you send us a debug report from the Support dropdown, after the Previous Emails has failed?

(And let me know when you have so I can investigate!).

  • Just Me

Great, thank you Andy – one little bug to report though … ;-)
As it is kind of difficult to explain in words – please check the attached image.

  • http://www.activeinboxhq.com Andy Mitchell

    Hey Just Me,

Thank you for using the image!

So, the problem is that it shows “Gmail Results | Active Results” twice? Or that it finds no search results?

Are you seeing any errors in the Support tab in the top right? If so, can you submit them (and let me know when you have)?

  • Just Me

Hey Andy, no it’s much simpler: You can hardly see the black text of the Active Results (I’m using a dark layout), when there are no items. In contrast to that the Gmail Results have a light grey backgroud and white text (so attached are actually 2 pictures: one of the Active Results, the other one of the Gmail Results).

  • Justin Lewis-Anthony

Phew! Folding “Today” into “Overdue” seems to be more like ActiveGuiltBox!

  • Ian Gadd

    Hi Andy,

    Just sent a debug report.

    Many thanks, Ian

  • Kevin Murray

Yes, I’ve sent off the errors which are of the type

Error in glRequest._requestCallback: Error in parse: SyntaxError: Unexpected token <

Strange that the behaviour is inconsistent. Occasionally a child project label does slip in, but not the majority.

  • Just Me

Now fixed in 4.0.4.6 – thank you!
