Tidy everything up with a weekly review
Even with the best will in the world, your organization can fall behind, and the weekly review is your opportunity to get back on top of things. As with all forms of work (not to mention exercise!), the best way to keep going is never to break your routine. But when it does happen, with email at least, catching up again is quick & easy.
Schedule a block of time once a week to tackle:
- Overdue scheduled emails - ActiveInbox will tell you what is overdue so you can reschedule it, cancel it or just respond now.
- Aging items - all your emails with a Status (except Some Day and Finished), which have had no activity in over a week, should be either unactioned or processed now.
- Project labels - if a project is no longer relevant, rename the project to deactivate it and get it off your mind. You can do this by renaming the label with the Old/ prefix, e.g. P/MyProject => Old/P/MyProject.
- Empty your inbox - if you maintain inbox zero, the best way to keep it going is just keep going! If it fills up again, empty it to get back on top again.
