How to make a new folder in Gmail

Gmail calls folders "Labels" - but they work the same way.

  1. Login to Gmail in your browser
  2. Scroll down Gmail's left-hand menu
  3. Find "Labels"
  4. Click the + next to Labels
  5. Enter a name for the new folder

Or, on Gmail mobile

  1. Open the Gmail App
  2. Click the menu icon in the top left
  3. Click 'Create New'

How to create sub folders

This is especially useful for nesting project folders.

  1. Scroll down Gmail's sidebar
  2. Click the + next to Labels, and check "Nest Label Under", then select the parent folder.
  3. Or, find the parent folder in the sidebar, click the 3 dots to the right of it, and choose "Add sublabel" from the dropdown.
